John Zaffiro

Music Teacher

My name is John Zaffiro and I currently serves as the general music teacher at St. Kilian’s School. I also hold the same position at St. Gabriel School in Hubertus and Catholic East Elementary in Milwaukee. While growing up in Milwaukee I attended Holy Rosary grade school and St. John’s Cathedral High School. During that time I became interested in music and began playing the guitar and formed several bands that performed around Milwaukee. I continued my education at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and earned a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance. I continued to perform in various bands and ensembles at venues such as Summerfest, Italian Fest and at Potawatomi Northern Lights Theatre in the orchestra behind such artists as Joan Rivers, Don Rickles, and Mary Wilson of the Supremes. I later returned to school and earned a second degree in Music Education from UW-Milwaukee. I have been teaching in schools since 1998 beginning in the Milwaukee Public Schools and later at St. Mary’s Visitation School in Elm Grove. I have completed courses in ORFF and Kodaly education.  The Orff Method is a way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, acting and the use of percussion instruments (i.e. xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels). Lessons are presented with an element of "play" helping the children learn at their own level of understanding which I employ today.  I am committed to providing the best child centered music education to all students.
