David Vandermeuse

St. Kilian Band director

I am excited to be part of the St. Kilian School Staff.  Since the fall of 2014, I have been the music teacher for the band program at St. Kilian School.  I am so pleased to work with a very cooperative and talented group of experienced elementary school teachers at St. Kilian.  In the past few years, the band has participated in the annual Hartford Christmas Parade, at our Pie & Custard Social in the spring, and performed for many morning Masses at church.  We perform our concerts in the beautiful acoustics of St. Kilian Church.  Most of the students have performed a solo or small ensemble in our spring solo & ensemble festival.  We also perform for the school’s pep rally for the St. Kilian School annual basketball tournament.  This semester, we began a jazz combo with seven students.  We also take field trips to the Milwaukee Symphony, and perform for community events by invitation. I came to St. Kilian School after teaching for over 32 years at Hartford Union High School in the music department, vocational agriculture department, special education and modern language departments.  My other interests include gardening at home, conducting and performing with the Hartford City Band, teaching lessons at the Hartford Music Center, and tuning and repairing pianos in the community.   I have also worked many years at Black’s Nursery in Hartford and the local post office.
